Manila – May 11, 2018 – Marcel, a leading producer of seaweed and carrageenan, today announced it has completed the acquisition of the Cebu carrageenan plant from CP Kelco, a leading global producer of specialty hydrocolloid ingredients.
The state-of-the-art, fully equipped and highly automated Cebu plant produces: fully refined carrageenan, semi-refined carrageenan, specialty carrageenans and functional systems (blends). The on-site technology center includes: process technology lab with full-line carrageenan pilot plant, quality assurance lab for all rheological and microbiological tests, analytical lab with advanced capabilities like FTIR and AAS analysis, and product innovation lab for developing functional systems to customer specific requirements. This modern plant is also fully compliant and certified with GMP/HACCP, FSSC 22000/GFSI, SEDEX-SMETA, Halal, and Kosher (Passover and Pareve). lt will continue to be operated by trained and experienced staff.
With the addition of the Cebu plant located in Sibonga, Cebu, Philippines, Marcel will now operate 4 carrageenan plants. The other 3 plants are in Canlubang, Maasin and Zamboanga, all in the Philippines.
